Triggerpoint Therapy & Dry Needling
Understanding pain. Releasing muscles. Restoring function
Trigger Point Therapy
Manual trigger point therapy is based on the work of Travell and Simons on myofascial pain and focuses on the targeted treatment of tense or overloaded muscle areas. Both the trigger points themselves and the surrounding connective tissue are mobilized, stretched, and functionally strengthened.
The aim is to reduce pain, restore mobility, and achieve long-term stability.

Myofascial Pain
Many pain conditions and functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system originate in the muscles. Small, overloaded muscle areas—known as trigger points—can cause acute or chronic symptoms.
Typical signs include:
-
Local or referred pain
-
Muscle weakness without atrophy
-
Restricted range of motion
-
Coordination deficits and impaired body awareness
-
Autonomic responses
These symptoms are described as myofascial pain syndrome. With targeted therapy, these muscular dysfunctions can often be fully resolved—even after long-standing complaints.

Dry Needling
Dry needling is an effective complement to trigger point therapy. Fine needles are inserted into tense muscle areas to improve muscle function, increase blood flow and oxygen supply, and reduce pain.
Treatment techniques include:
-
Superficial Dry Needling (SDN)
-
Deep Dry Needling / Intramuscular Stimulation (DDN / IMS)
This precise and effective method can be combined with manual therapy to achieve lasting muscle relaxation, improved stability, and pain relief.
Qualifications
At Move Well Physiotherapy, three sports physiotherapists work with certified training in dry needling. All therapists have completed accredited education programs and possess extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of myofascial pain and functional disorders.
Their expertise is applied purposefully to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore functional stability.
